team building benefits

We have all heard about those company team building days where the whole team goes out on an adventure somewhere, completes a challenge together or spends a little time getting to know each other.  You may have thought about doing this for your team, but stumble when you find you can’t answer the question; what is the return on my investment?

Well here at Brightstone we have an absolutely fantastic team and we put that down to a really strong bond. We work well together because we have fun doing what we do, we trust each other, respect each other, share opinions with one another and make decisions together. We know that our company would not be as good at what we do if it wasn’t for our strong team, and we help organisations to achieve this too.

What are the benefits of team building events?

1. Bonding

Sitting near each other in the office doesn’t give team members much opportunity to bond in a non-threatening, relaxed environment. Team building days can really pull employees out of their shell, revealing their strengths and weakness, likes and dislikes. Teams function better once everyone knows where the strengths and passions are hidden.

2. Learn to face challenges together

Team building days give groups the opportunity to face a challenge and work out a solution between them. These challenges are a fantastic opportunity for people to work together to agree the best way forward, sharing their goals and utilising various team strengths. When these skills are brought back in to the work environment, problems can be solved much faster!

3. Discover creativity

Rediscover just how creative your team can be when set a new challenge! Watch them bounce new ideas off each other, think up crazy ideas and agree on the best way to solve the challenge between them.

4. Feel valued

Probably the most obvious reason for team building is to motivate people! Giving your team an opportunity to go out, have fun and spend time together will make them feel cherished and valued. Employees who feel valued are more likely to go the extra mile and put in a little extra effort to reach a shared organisational goal.

5. Identify leaders

Team building activities can bring out a side in people you may not have seen in the workplace. Once you give teams the space to get creative, bond, encourage each other, and get competitive; strengths, weaknesses and leadership traits can emerge,  which helps you as management decide how to get the most from your people.

6. Improve communication

Team building activities encourage your teams to share their ideas and listen to others. With management structures removed, people can learn to communicate their ideas on a human level and be given a voice they may not normally feel entitled to.

How do you bring your team building results back into work?

Depending what type of team building event you opt for, your employees will be given a chance to reflect on what they have learnt from the day. This may be as simple as looking at what they learnt about themselves and others, or it could be to come up with a new plan of action for the future to transform the way they work as a team.

Team building days rejuvenate unmotivated teams and offer a new start; a new way of working together and a new way of collaborating with management. Imagine what else your employees could achieve if they knew exactly who had the skills to help them solve their day-to-day challenges? How many mistakes could be avoided? How much time could be saved?
